The practice of “horse soring” has been condemned forcefully by Wayne Pacelle and The HSUS for quite a while. It’s a barbaric practice that amounts to inflicting unimaginable pain to the hoofs and forelegs of young horses used in the “sport” of Tennessee walking horse competitions and that is practice still flourishes is hard to imagine.
Long overdue and much needed relief appeared to be on the horizon when during the final days of the Obama Administration, a federal regulation was put in place to limit the most egregious aspects of the industry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t signed into law in time prior to President Obama’s departure from office and subsequently fell victim to President Trump’s agenda of rolling back and blocking all of Obama’s legislative initiatives. The only hope now for these horses is the USDA reviewing and approving the regulation.
