The work of The HSUS affects the lives of billions of animals around the world. Since 1994, Wayne Pacelle has been leading this work as well as refining and expanding the mission that drives it. Under his leadership, The HSUS has grown its reach and impact beyond advocating for the welfare of companion animals and wildlife within the borders of the United States.
The mission has since expanded to address a broad range of animal welfare issues from the extreme confinement of animals on factory farms, abusive puppy mills, dog fighting, to international animal welfare issues such as trophy hunting and the plight of street dogs.
